The Contributions tab in your Donor Profile is full of valuable features that allow you to fully understand the history and current status of your gift, and take any necessary action to manage that gift.
In this article, we'll take you through a deep dive into the Contributions tab so you can understand everything you can do within this section.
OVERVIEW
To access the Contributions tab, first, log in to your Donor Profile (https://profile.overflow.co/login) by entering the phone number or email address you have used to give through Overflow in the past. Then click the Contributions tab on the left. You'll immediately see a list of your donations.
- If you see a blue flag next to the transaction, it means you chose to submit that gift anonymously.
- A document icon next to the transaction means that the gift was over $250 and therefore will require an acknowledgment letter from the receiving 501c3 organization if you choose to claim a charitable deduction on that gift come tax time. Learn more about charitable acknowledgment letters here.
DONATION DETAILS
You can see a more in-depth view of an individual contribution by clicking anywhere on the gift in the Contributions tab or selecting the ellipsis on the far right of the gift. A window will pop out with the value of the donation, relevant dates, and a full history of your donation. This is especially helpful for stock donations as those can take longer to process and have more steps in the journey.
COLUMN DEFINITIONS
Initiated Date: The date you first submitted the donation. To view when the donation was received by the nonprofit (especially important for stock gifts), click the contribution to open up the donation details window. This will show the confirmed date if the receiving organization has in fact received the gift.
Status: Although it may feel like once you click "Give Now" the organization receives your gift, it does take time for the donation to leave your account. There are two main statuses you will see on your Donor Profile:
- Initiated:
- Applies to stock gifts only. This means you have submitted the stock donation but the transfer request has not yet been sent to your brokerage account for processing.
- Pending:
- Cash: The funds are processing and have not yet arrived in the receiving organization's account.
- Crypto: You have initiated a donation through the Overflow platform but have not completed it. To complete your transaction, scan the QR code sent to you via email from Overflow and send the gift from your crypto wallet.
- Stock: It can take up to two weeks to process a stock donation depending on the brokerages involved. Stock gifts are pending from the time the donation transfer request is submitted to y your brokerage account until the shares arrive in the receiving organization's account. Keep an eye out for notes within the donation details window from Overflow's Donor Operations team, as you may be required to take additional action to complete the donation.
- Confirmed: The funds have arrived in the receiving nonprofit's account and the donation is complete!
Confirmed Value: This is the final value of your gift after it has been fully processed. Each value is defined differently depending on the asset you gave.
- Cash Donations - the value you donated in United States dollars.
- Crypto Donations - the value of the cryptocurrency you donated is displayed in United States dollars.
- Stock Donations - Depending on how the organization chose to receive the donation (in-kind or liquidated), the confirmed value for stock donations will either be the high-low average of the stock price on the day it was received by the organization OR the actual value in United States dollars sent to the organization when the gift was liquidated. If the organization has not yet confirmed receipt of the gift, this column will be blank. We recommend consulting with your tax professional to determine the appropriate value to claim for a charitable gift deduction on your taxes.
Quantity/Ticker: This column is important for non-cash donations because non-cash contributions have a value that fluctuates daily. It is important to know the quantity and type of non-cash asset donations to be able to determine the proper amount to write off on your taxes.
- This column does not apply to cash donations and therefore will be blank if you donated via credit card, debit card, or ACH transfer.
- For crypto donations, this will be the amount of coin and the type of coin you gave.
- For stock donations, this column will show the number and ticker of the stock you donated. Only one ticker type will be listed per contribution. Therefore, you may see multiple contributions for a donation you submitted on the same day as each ticker type you gave will be listed as a separate contribution.
FILTER CONTRIBUTIONS
To filter transactions, you can view them in buckets of "pending" or "completed" donations by using the tabs on the top of your screen. Or, click the Filter button on the right to search for specific transactions. You can filter by receiving organization, date range, or asset type.
TAX DOCUMENTS
If the organization that received your gift has sent you an acknowledgment letter, you can download the letter directly from your Donor Profile. Simply find the contribution, scroll to the far right, and click the ellipsis. Then select "Download Letter". You can also view acknowledgment letters in theTax Documents tab of your Donor Profile.
EXPORT
The Export functionality allows you to download a list of your transactions to your desktop. You can select gifts one by one or use the checkbox next to "Organization" to select all gifts on a single page, filter, and then export a list.
